Pupils at a local High School are benefiting from a new 'Breakfast club'. MGt, a leading outsource service provider in the media sector, has funded this scheme as part of its ongoing commitment to the community.
The funding enables the school to run a daily healthy eating club where any pupil, who otherwise might not eat a healthy breakfast, can drop in to enjoy breakfast before lessons start.
The Breakfast Club was started by school head cleaner Lorraine Lister and school nurse Rhona Trail, who both realised that some children regularly skip breakfast before coming to school.
Apart from the obvious health benefits, the club which is supported by staff volunteers, also promotes the importance of sitting down at a table to eat a meal, interaction with other people and actively tries to promote confidence, responsibility and respect through development of personal and social skills.
Head teacher, Gwen Kinghorn believes the support from MGt will ensure the continuation of what has become an important school initiative allowing children 'to benefit from eating a balanced breakfast before starting a morning's work, and encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.'
MGt, one of the largest private sector employers in Fife, also currently coordinates a 'Business Ready Programme' with the High School, which delivers a number of interactive activities for the students, including interview preparation, work shadowing opportunities and general business orientation. The initiative has been nominated for the final in the Best Business Partnership category of the forthcoming Scottish Education Awards. |
