~ MGt sponsors first 'Challenge Cup' between Leven Boys and St Johns Football Clubs ~
St. Johns Football Club and Leven Boys Club battled it out for the inaugural MGt Challenge Cup over the weekend.
The game finished a 1-1 draw and it was agreed that both teams should share the Cup rather than the match be decided on penalties.
MGt, leading provider of support services to some of the biggest names in the UK broadcast industry, supported the first ever Challenge Cup event for the two local youth football teams.
The contribution from MGt has helped the Leven Boys Club and St John's Club to provide strips for the players and has also created a great comradery between the teams, both on and off the pitch. The clubs and MGt have just agreed to make the tournament an annual event.
MGt, with its headquarters in John Smith Business Park and a customer service centre in Methil, supports a number of initiatives including Maggies Cancer Centre as part its ongoing commitment to the local community.
Graham Freeman, St John's Coach and Shaun McAllister, Leven Boys Coach said, "The contribution and support from MGt has relieved the pressure of financing our participation in the Fife under 12's league each season. Having the major costs of supplying match and training kits covered, ensures we can continue building up the team and running the clubs which mean so much to our lads."
Jonathan Guthrie, MGt Chief Executive said "We recognise how important it is for our youngsters to have access to well organised out of school activities and I am genuinely delighted to be able to support these two teams. I would also like to commend the huge commitment of the coaches who have volunteered their time to keep the clubs going."
Councilor Andrew Keddie, also attended the match to show his support from the sidelines. He said, "We hear all the time about how we should be encouraging young people off the sofa and into regular activity. Teams like these are vital in our communities and I am delighted that MGt, one of the largest employers in Fife , is making the effort to support community initiatives in this way."
